Animal of the Week!
This week’s animal is the Komondor. It’s a breed of dog that essentially grows its own dreadlocks, as you can see in the picture. These are guard dogs, having a natural instinct to guard livestock. These dogs are large, most of the time reaching over 30 inches tall, and on average Komondors tend to weigh between 110 and 130 pounds. Overall this dog is very laid back and friendly but if a family member is being threatened they can go into full-on defensive mode. Komondors will always have white fur; some may be discoloured due to exposure or improper cleaning, but they’re always born white. When left to grow out, the dog’s coat will become corded, looking like dreadlocks or a mop. The coat looks the way it does to protect the dog from wild animals and the elements. It also looks the way it does so that way when the dog is guarding a flock of sheep, it will blend in with the sheep and be able to mount a surprise attack on a predator.
